Located in the historic centre of Taormina, one of the most evocative and fascinating places in Sicily. Guests can enjoy a centuries-old park of 1,500 square metres overlooking the Gulf of Naxos, in a quiet and panoramic position with stupendous views of the sea and Mount Etna.
The former 19th century mansion was converted into a hotel in 1905. Today it is a refined 4-star hotel, extensively renovated in recent years, emphasising its original elegance, charm and romantic turn-of-the-century atmosphere, continuously adapted to modern comforts.
The hotel has 27 rooms, all comfortably equipped and refurbished with special attention to detail and orthopaedic beds, with sea or garden views, most with balcony, terrace or loggia.
Breakfast
Hotel Villa Schuler offers a rich breakfast served à la carte with freshly cooked dishes but does not have a restaurant for lunch or dinner.
Taormina offers guests a wide choice of restaurants in the city centre and are within walking distance.
If you are planning an intimate and cosy ceremony for your wedding and your total number of guests is less than 20, then Hotel Villa Schuler is probably one of the best locations. The hotel offers attentive, personalised service and a natural photographic backdrop with breathtaking views and enchanting gardens.
But the hotel is also the ideal location for small refined meetings, small conferences, corporate meetings and working groups in Taormina. The hotel within its botanical park has two small, elegant and functional rooms equipped with the latest conference technology.
History
Converted from a Sicilian palace into a hotel in 1905, the historic Villa Schuler is the oldest hotel owned in Sicily. It has an eventful and remarkable history.
Eugen Schuler Senior, grandfather of the current owner Gerhard Schuler, settled in Sicily in 1886. He came from Germany to Sicily at the age of 20, travelling in the footsteps of the famous poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He first lived in Messina, where he married a German woman; they had a son and moved to Taormina, where they started an antiques, jewellery and art photography shop.
In 1902, they built their private villa on a beautiful property in the best location in Taormina, overlooking the Ionian Sea. After her husband's premature death in 1905, Anna Schuler converted the family residence into a hotel and it continues to be run by the third generation of the Schuler family.
Taormina is the ideal starting point for day trips to admire the artistic and natural beauties of the whole of eastern Sicily: the adjacent Castelmola and Giardini-Naxos, Forza D'Agrò and Savoca, the nature reserves of Isola Bella and Fiumefreddo, the nearby Alcantara Gorges, Mount Etna, the Peloritani mountains, the Nebrodi park, Acitrezza, the baroque Acireale and its Timpa, Messina, Catania, Syracuse and Noto, Caltagirone and Enna.
