Santa Giulia Museum in Brescia

The Santa Giulia Museum is one of the most important museums in Brescia. It offers a comprehensive overview of the history and culture of the region. The museum's collections are divided into five sections: Archaeological, Ethnographic, Historical, Artistic-Cultural and Sacred Art. The museum is housed in the former convent of Santa Giulia, founded in 1190 by Benedictine nuns from Aquino in southern Italy.

The museum was founded in 1736 by the aristocrat Giulia Renata who collected a wide variety of paintings, sculptures and art objects from her travels in Europe. The museum houses some of the most important works of art in Bresciaincluding a Madonna and Child by the Sienese Duccio di Buoninsegna and 15th-century frescoes. It also includes collections of Italian sculpture from the 12th to the 18th centuryChinese ceramics, European paintings from the 16th to 18th century.

The archaeological section of the museum presents pre-Roman artefacts from all over Italydating from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age or even earlier. This collection comprises about 7500 pieces reflecting all aspects of life at the time, including agriculture, trade routes and burial rituals.
