Varese the "Garden City"

Varese is a dynamic and multifaceted locality, known, among other things, for being called, also, Garden City. This characteristic appellation identifying Varese comes from the fact that, in its municipal area, there are several

gardens and parks belonging to villas that came to be built, in this magnificent corner of the Lombardy, beginning in the 18th century.

Particularly rich, then, is the heritage of both history and art that can be visited in Varese. Not for nothing, there are important and numerous testimonies that refer both to the Baroque as well as to the so-called barocchetto

Lombard, or a traditional style that came into its own at the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, the presence of the stupendous Basilica of San Vittore. Built on a pre-existing structure dating back to the 14th century, the body of the structure was outlined according to the plan drawn up in 1580 by Pellegrino Pellegrini. In contrast, the project inherent in the related bell tower, completed in the 18th century and which, even today, is the tallest building in Varese, is due to Giuseppe Bernascone.

Among the many churches in Varese, worth a visit are the Church of Sant'Antonio alla Motta, as well as the Church of San Giuseppe, which is located right in the immediate vicinity of the central Monte Grappa Square.
