The Rocca di Angera is a castle located on the shores of Lake Maggiore in Lombardy's Lomellina region. The castle was built in medieval times to protect the citizens from attacks by Swiss mercenaries. It also served as the headquarters of a garrison and a prison for political prisoners.
Today, visitors can tour its interior and see frescoes and tapestries created by Ludovico Ruscelli.
Another important feature of this castle is that it houses one of the best museums of toys and dolls in Italywith more than 6000 dolls from all over the world! Founded in 1988 by Princess Bona Borromeo Arese, this museum is the largest of its kind in Europe and is distinguished by the quality, variety and rarity of the exhibits. Open to the public since 1992, this museum has a vast collection of dolls, toys, miniatures, drawings, paintings, posters, books and other objects related to dolls.
